Answer to your Health Question

I often pass a lot of whites with pain no odor. Could it be an infection?

Dear Ashantie,

Feces can even appear white if one drinks a substance known as barium sulfate.

In water, the more toxic soluble barium salts are likely to be converted to insoluble salts which precipitate.

Barium does not bind to most soils and may migrate to ground water.

It has a low tendency to accumulate in aquatic life.

Medical conditions that may cause light-colored or white stool include:

* Liver infections, such as hepatitis
* Biliary cirrhosis
* Gallstones
* Anatomic abnormalities of the intestines or bile ducts present at birth (congenital)
* Inborn errors of metabolism
* Sclerosing cholangitis
* Narrowing (strictures) of bile ducts
* Cysts
* Tumors
* A side effect of certain medications, such as some antibiotics, antifungal drugs and antacids

A healthy stool has little to no odor (also accompanied by little gas).

10 possible causes of 'Pain with bowel movement' are :

-Anal fissure
-Proctitis (an inflammation of the rectum)(Mucus in stool is a symptom )
-Anorectal abscess
-Chronic nonbacterial prostatitis
-Ulcerative colitis
