Question: What does it mean if a woman feels shooting pain through her right breast and she feels pressure in her chest? I am also having problems breathing. Basically I want to know if this could be something serious. Erica

Answer: Dear Erica,

Any organs and tissues (heart, lungs, esophagus, muscles, ribs, tendons, nerves) in the chest area can cause pressure and pain. Conditions that can cause chest pressure include:

- Angina
- Asthma (usually accompanied by cough and shortness of breath)
- Pneumonia
- Anxiety
- Digestive problems (ulcer, indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux)

In pain is persisten or becomes worse, a visit to the doctor is recommended.
