Question: I just recently had
blood drawn for my thyroid condition. Would Hepatitis C be detected
in my blood test or is there another test to find out if I have Hepatitis
C? Linda
Answer: Dear Linda,
A simple blood test may not show
Hepatitis C conditions. In order to diagnose Hepatitis C, a liver
function test must be performed. Using a blood sample, the test looks
for anti-HCV antibodies in serum.
In order to look and find anti-HCV
antibodies, a laboratory technician needs to do special tests to the
blood which may not be part of basic blood tests for thryroid conditions.
