Answer to your Health Question

Question: I have recently discoverd traces of blood in my sperm. What could be happening? What would cause this and why? Chipi

Answer: Dear Chipi,

Blood in the semen can be caused due to problems in the reproductive tract such as infection, injury, inflammation. Areas that could be affected include the urethra, the testicles, the epididymis and/or the prostate.

When blood in the semen is due to inflammation of the seminal vesicles, it usually goes away by itself. If the blood is persistant, tests may be necessary.
