Answer to your Health Question

Question: Can a cocaine abuser get cancer in their nose? Ms. Bailey

Answer: Dear Ms. Bailey,

Nasal cancer is not a known symptom of cocaine consumption. On the other hand, long term use of cocaine, when snorted, can produce severe damage in the nose.

Cocaine can make the blood vessels in the lining of the nose shrink and widen, causing a loss of blood suply to the septum (wall between the nostrils) and damaging it by leaving a hole between the nose passages.

This damage can result in collapse of the bridge of the nose. Once this damage has been done, it is irreversible.
