Answer to your Health Question

Question: I have often extreme itchiness all over my body w/o any visible symptoms. It does not seem to be related to what I eat. It is especially after my skin is touched in any way. It seems to wear off when my mind focuses on something else. Jay

Answer: Dear Jay,

General itch is sometimes a symptom of psychological conditions such as stress and anxiety. In this case, the psychological factor needs to be treated first in order to obtain relief.

Dry skin is also a frequent factor of itch. Moisturizing the skin daily can prevent dryness and reduce the itch.

If at any time the itch is accompanied by lesions and/or blistes, it is important to visit the doctor as those can be symptoms of skin inflammations such as eczema and psoriasis.
