Answer to your Health Question

Question: I have a soreness in my jaw and I am having a hard time opening it. My jaw makes a popping noise and since the soreness started it has gotten a little louder. I have also had a cold for the last few days. I would like to know if the soreness in my jaw is something I should be worried about or if it will pass with the cold? Erica

Answer: Dear Erica,

Jaw soreness is not usually a symptom of a cold. If you've recently visited the dentist, jaw soreness could be a symptom of having your mouth wide open for a while.

Bruxism can also cause jaw soreness. This conditon occurs when teeth are clenched and grinded at night which can cause the jaw to deteriorate.
