Question: I want to know what is the size of first lymph nodes around the neck and how it looks like and for how many months or days will be and is it going to be enlarged? this is for the one who is suspecting to be infected with hiv. regards. salii

Answer: Dear salii,

Normal lymph nodes in the neck are usually less than 1 cm in length. It looks like a walnut or a golf ball in the case of infection.
95% of the people infected with HIV will develop antibodies within three months. If the node remains enlarged (greater than 1cm) for 2 to 3 months, or continues to grow after 2 weeks, then a biopsy of the lymph node is indicated,
However, enlarged lymph nodes are an integral part of HIV disease
