Why my vaginal secretions are very acidic a lot of the time?

I have no discharge, itching, burning or odor.

But during these instances my spouse complains of burning sensation upon contact with the vaginal secretions.

I have no symptoms of my own.

Though I do take a lot of antibiotics Since I have problems with a poor immune system.

Answer:

Thank you very much for your question.

About 95% of a healthy vaginal bacteria population consists of lactobacilli.

There are several subtypes of lactobacilli, but the most important type produces hydrogen peroxide (a cleaning agent).

A healthy vaginal pH is relatively acidic (pH 3.8-4.5).

An acidic pH also discourages undesirable bacteria.

Antibiotics may modify a healthy vaginal pH.

The quality of an individual's immune system can be evaluated through the balance of cytokines it is producing.

Proinflammatory cytokine measurement does not appear to be affected by the presence of semen, but secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) is significantly higher when semen is present.

Secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor inhibits human leukocyte elastase.

Leukocyte elastase destroys bacteria and host tissue.
