I have old and new blood from my prostate for about 8 weeks. psa is .4. I have had kidney stones and infections. had a urine test know infection. what could be causing the blood in my semen?

Dear Philip,

Not infrequently, prostatitis patients are shocked to notice blood or blood clots in their semen.

Blood in semen is also seen after the beginning of a series of prostate drainages.

Urethritis has long been recognized as a cause of bloody semen.

Possible sources for blood in the semen include the following:

Urinary tract infections.

Prostatitis.

Sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea or Chlamydia.

Benign prostate hypertrophy.

Surgical procedures such as prostate biopsy or bladder catheterization.

Trauma to the testicles or prostate.

Cancer of the prostate, bladder or reproductive organs.
