Answer to your Health Question

Question: It has been two years since I had my baby and it that time I have had 3 periods. I'm still lactating. I cry at the dumbest times and have not really wanted to have sex (it takes me forever to have an orgasm and I'm very dry). After the birth of my son they gave me a pill for my blood to clot. I have been to a doctor and they did blood tests but said everything was normal. KBritton

Answer: Dear KBritton,

Crying a lot and having no energy/motivation may be signs of postpartum depression. Other symptoms of postpartum depression include:

  • Feeling restless or irritable
  • Feeling sad, hopeless, and overwhelmed
  • Eating too little or too much
  • Sleeping too little or too much
  • Trouble focusing, remembering, or making decisions
  • Feeling worthless and guilty
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities
  • Withdrawal from friends and family

Women that breastfeed take longer to get their periods back and in some cases they only start menstruating when they stop lactating.
