Answer to your Health Question

Question: I am a 47 year old woman with no serious health issues. However, recently I have been experiencing what I would describe as soft air bubbles or silent popping under my right breast. I have been diagnosed with a hernia under my right breast about 30 years ago. I am not in any pain. It is very annoying. What could be causing this? Than you, Julie

Answer: Dear Julie,

The sounds that you mention might be stomach sounds even though the stomach is more to the left. Stomach sounds are very common although sometimes they may occur due to an upset stomach or irritable bowel syndrome.

When these sounds are caused by extra gas, drinking a soda might help induce burping and reduce gas in the stomach. Stomach noises may also be due to the activity of gastric juices in the stomach.
