Answer: Dear Tammy,

Stomach pain, also known as abdominal pain, can have many causes. The most common ones include:

- Excessive gas
- Chronic constipation
- Lactose intolerance
- Stomach Flu
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Heartburn or indigestion
- Gastroesophageal reflux
- Ulcers
- Cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder)
- Appendicitis (inflammation of the appendix)
- Food poisoning (salmonella, shigella)
- Hernia
- Kidney stones

When abdominal pain lasts for more than a week it is recommended to see a doctor so he/she can perform tests and diagnose the problem.
