Answer to your Health Question

Question (11/23/2012):

Title: 8 am cortisol level at 5.7.

My 8am cortisol level was tested and came back at 5.7.

My endocrinologist said it was to low so he scheduled an ACTH stimulating test to check my adrenal glands response.

The final result was a base line of 6.2 mcg/dl and the end result was 21.4.

Are these results within the normal range?

Answer:

Thank you very much for your question.

A normal 8 am cortisol level is 5.0-23.0 ug/dl.

Blood cortisol after ACTH stimulation should be greater than 18 - 20 mcg/dL (micrograms per deciliter)

ACTH Normal values are 9 - 52 pg/m (picograms per milliliter).
