Question (05/09/2011):

Title: Food and cultural integration .

A four year old student in our class is from a different cultural back ground, she is having a hard time eating the foods that we have offered her.

She is so used to the foods that she eats at home.

Her mother is a wonderful cook and she offers to bring some of the food that the child eats at home one day of the week.

My question is: How should I respond to this?

Linda

Answer:

Dear Linda,

In order to facilitate the integration of the child in a very new environment cultural awareness is one of the aspects that should be taken into consideration.

Allowing her mother to bring food in your class would be a positive factor in the integration of the child.
