My period has been on for 9 days when it normally last 3 days.

It usually starts in the morning and stops as the day progresses.

Is this normal

Ada

Answer:

Dear Ada,

It's common if you are taking certain birth control pill for a long period of time and if you have changed birth control pills.

An "abnormal" menstrual bleeding is considered anything longer than 7 days.

Menstrual bleeding that lasts longer than 7 days may be a symptom of dysfunctional uterine bleeding.

Other reasons for abnormal/irregular periods are:

*Polycystic ovary disease (syndrome)

*Pregnancy

*Infections of the uterus or cervix

*IUD

*Birth Control Pills

*Uterine fibroids

*Blood clotting problems

*Cancer of the uterus, cervix or vagina

*Genetic abnormality in anatomy
