Answer to your Health Question

Question:

I have been diagnosed with adenomatous glandular nodular hyperplasia in thyroid gland
What does it mean?

Thanks.
Laine

Answer:

Dear Laine,

An adenoma is a benign epithelial tumor having a glandular origin and structure.

Hyperplasia is an abnormal increase in the number of normal cells in normal arrangement in an organ or tissue, which increases its volume.

A gland is an organ in an animal's body that synthesizes a substance for release such as hormones or breast milk, often into the bloodstream (endocrine gland) or into cavities inside the body or its outer surface (exocrine gland).

Nodule in medicine is a small aggregation of cells.

The thyroid gland is the biggest gland in the neck. A gland that makes and stores hormones that help regulate the heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and the rate at which food is converted into energy.
