Question:
Hi, I
am a 29 year old female with spondylosis.
Can Spondylosis
cause sexual intercourse to be painful?
Thanks
HB
Answer:
Dear
HB,
The woman
must have relaxed pelvic floor muscles to make love without pain.
Due to
the fear of pain the pelvic floor muscles are tensed too much, which
causes the love play to hurt.
Any problem
in the organs, skin, muscles, bones, ligaments, and nerves in your
pelvic area can cause CPP or chronic pelvic pain.
Chronic
pelvic pain may occur with an infection or inflammation (swelling)
of one or more parts in your pelvic area.
Spondylosis
may cause small-capacity hyper-reflexic bladder, manifesting as an
overactive bladder.
Women
who experience overactive bladder are less likely to enjoy sexual
activity, according to a study from the University of Pittsburgh.
Overactive
bladder - a condition where the muscle surrounding the bladder contracts
spastically may cause genital or abdominal pain.
Those
who experienced a significant amount of genital or abdominal pain
were less likely to enjoy sexual activity.
