sulfate goes to very high levels during reproductive years then falls
off in the fourth, fifth, and sixth decades to very low levels.
sulfate is made in the amount of some 15 mg a day.
DHEA sulfate, a prohormone, may be of major importance in maintaining
normal androgen output and production in women.
levels of DHEAS may indicate an adrenocortical tumor, adrenal cancer,
or adrenal hyperplasia. Increased levels of DHEAS are not diagnostic
of a specific condition; they usually indicate the need for further
testing to pinpoint the cause of the hormone imbalance.
(Dehydroepiandrosterone) or pregnelone is an endogenous hormone (made
in the human body) secreted by the adrenal gland.
After being secreted by the adrenal glands, it circulates in the bloodstream
as DHEA-sulfate (DHEAS) and is converted as needed into other hormones.
serves as precursor to male and female sex hormones (androgens and
patients with PCOD (Polycystic Ovary Disease) , a health condition
associated with hormone imbalance, have a high dehydroepiandrosterone
sulphate ( DHEA-S) level which can cause a cluster of symptoms in
some women like pelvic pain , fatigue, depression, discomfort in the
abdomen and vaginal pain.
is a notoriously difficult condition to diagnose. Fatigue, vaginal
pain, abdominal pain and high DHEA levels are sometimes symptoms of
endometriosis.High DHEA levels can often be associated with high stress
although several variables can affect hormone levels such as medications,
aging, environmental toxins, unhealthy lifestyle choices, excessive
exercise, and improper diet.
when ovarian function slows, there is sometimes a shift in the hormone
pathway that favors the androgen hormones.
conditions such as polycystic ovaries or androgen-secreting tumors
will also elevate androgen levels.
