Answer to your Health Question

Question (01/19/2012):

Title: Tingling feeling in the anus after a prostate exam.

I recently had a physical. I had a prostate exam with the physical & since that time I have been experiencing a tingling type sensation around my anus.

Just had a physical last week and had prostate checked.

I now have a tingling feeling in my anus that comes and goes throughout the day.

Any thoughts on what might have caused this?

Could the Dr. have done something or is it something else?

Answer:

The pudendal nerve might have caused this.

The doctor could have pressed the pudendal nerve.

Pressing on a nerve during a digital rectal examination may cause tingling or numbness.

Pressing on the pudendal nerve during a digital rectal examination may cause tingling or numbness throughout the area innervated by the pudendal nerve or its branches, including the anus.
