Answer to your Health Question

Question: My husband has Type 2 Diabetes and recently started using insulin. About the same time he developed a cough so severe that he throws up about a coughing bout and once passed out (a hospital visit by ambulance followed that one). After tons of tests they told him it was stress. Could this cough be related to the insulin usage? Kim

Answer: Dear Kim,

Cough can be a side effect of insulin when inhaled instead of injected. Other side effects of inhaled insulin include:

- Shortness of breath
- Sore throat
- Dry mouth
