Answer to your Health Question

Question: If you smoke occassionally and are scheduled for minor surgery can it hurt to lie and say you don't smoke? Joyce

Answer: Dear Joyce,

When having surgery it is important that you disclose everything to your doctor. Doctors require a lot of information from patients to make sure that the surgery will go smoothly and will know how to proceed in case something goes wrong.

People that smoke, specially soon before surgery, have a more restricted blood flow to the heart which can also affect anesthesia.
