Answer to your Health Question

Question: I have a problem and I am really scared about it. On 25-05-2006 I had sexual relations with one lady and I was using a condom but on 03-june-2006 I felt that my body was weak and also my sight was weak. Also one week after I was feeling like fainting and had fever. After one month in July, I started feeling pain in my muscles and muscle spams. In August 2006, after one more month one brown dot appeared in my neck near under my ear. I had a check up and they told me that ALT and AST in my blood is abnormal. ALT is 200 and AST is 58. I refused to do an HIV test as I am so scared to do it. Please I need an answer = from you because I am almost dispaired and I don't know what to do and how I can live with this. Thanks, Saliih,

Answer: Dear Shaliih,

Your ALT and AST levels are very high. Normal levels for ALT are between 7-56 and for AST between 5-40. High levels of these enzymes usually indicate liver problems such as Hepatitis.

Common symptoms of Hepatitis include:

- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Nausea/vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Jaundice
- Dark urine

A doctor can perform certain tests to diagnose hepatitis.

Hepatitis B is the most serious form and can be transmitted sexually. This form of hepatitis has between 4 to 25 weeks of incubation.
