Answer to your Health Question

Question: Does is make any difference if you have a cervical smear at the beginning, middle or end of your mentrual cycle in respect of the presence of abnormal cells? Diana

Answer: Dear Diana,

It is not recommended to have a Pap Smear during menstruation because the blood and cells from the endometrial cavity can alter the accuracy of the test.

The best time to be tested is 10 to 20 days after the first day of your last period.
