Answer to your Health Question

Question: Hi, there are some little hard balls growing under the skin of my head, under the hair and ppl says it's a gathering of fat and needs operation. What can I do? Please let me know. Thanks, Mary

Answer: Dear Mary,

A sebaceous cyst is a sac beneath the skin that is filled with sebum. This type of cyst usually appears on the scalp, ears, face or back and is caused by plugged ducts in the hair follicles.

This type of cyst does not need treatment unless it becomes infected, injured or a person just wants it removed.
