Question: My dad takes insulin
at 9pm and if he should fall asleep within 4-6 hours he wakes up drenched
in sweat and we have to change the bed and all his clothes, but if
he stays up he's ok. Why is that happening and his level are 125-140
when I check it. Tonimarie
Answer: Dear Tonimarie,
It is important not to go to sleep
after a regular or Lispro insulin shot without eating first. These
two types of insuling last between 2-4 hours (lipro) and 6-10 hours
(regular).
When the body has low blood sugar
levels, an insuling reaction can occur. Its symptoms include:
- Cold sweat
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Weakness
- Irritability
