Answer to your Health Question

Question: My husband sometimes coughs, vomits and poops some blood. It's mainly when he eats spicy food. We are worried it may be serious, is it? Jennifer

Answer: Dear Jennifer,

Eating to many spicy foods can cause gastritis. Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining. Chronic gastritis can result in ulcers. These can heal with time but it is important to change the diet and eat foods that are gently on the stomach.

Vomiting blood and bloody stools may indicate the presence of gastritis. This condition can be diagnosed by a doctor by performing certain tests.
