Answer to your Health Question

Question: I suffer from PTSD. Is there a link between PTSD and Hypothyroidism? Is it true that PTSD causes the thyroid to get worse? Is PTSD the cause of my hypothyroidism? Edwin

Answer: Dear Edwin,

Thyroid gland problems can cause symptoms such as nervousness and a rapid heartbeat which can be confused with post-traumatic stress disorder.

There are some studies that show that certain people that suffer from PTSD have a greater risk of suffering from autoimmune diseases (psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and hypothyroidism).
