Question: Can alcohol flare up diverticulitis? Amgad

Answer: Dear Amgad,

Diverticulitis is an inflammation of the diverticula in the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. Research shows diverticulosis does not appear to be associated with alcohol, smoking or caffeine consumption. Nevertheless, alcohol irritates the bowel so it is not recommended to drink any when suffering from diverticulosis.
