Answer to your Health Question

Question: After falling asleep I will awake with my arms/hips sound asleep. At first, I thought I was lying on my arm but recently I noticed I was on my back with my arms resting on my rib cage area. What may be causing this to happen and should I do something about it? I am a RMT and have had clients come in complaining about the same thing, so now I'm wondering if there is a name to go with this phenomenom. Sue

Answer: Dear Sue,

There are many causes for numb arms (and feet). Examples are:

- Remaining in the same position for a long time
- Nerve injury
- Bad circulation/lack of blood supply to a certain area
- Pressure on spinal discs
- Medical conditions such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis
- Stroke
