Question:
The problem
starts when I was 13, when I reached puberty (Now 20 years old already).
I easily
got tired and sleepy during the day.
My body
felt fatigue so much that it forces me to sleep during the day; even
I have a good sleep the night before.
Even
worst, I slept more than 11 hours per day!
I practiced
a good diet, take supplement like chicken essence and vitamins.
But it
does not help. For your additional info, the feeling of "tiredness"
is not like a person had done a heavy workout or something.
But it's
more like, I easily felt sleepy and yawn a lot during the day.
My reaction
will also become slow. And when I do accidentally sleep, i woke up
and look at my watch... "Gosh...12 hours had passed!"....
What's wrong with me?
I hope
you could give some information regarding this. Thank you. ^Y

Answer:
Dear
RuNe,
Sudden
daytime sleep, usually for only short periods of time, can be a sign
of narcolepsy.
Narcoleptic
episodes occur most often after meals, but can occur at any time -
even in the middle of a conversation.
Narcolepsy,
also known as DMS or the Daniel Merrick Sydrome, is a chronic sleep
disorder (a dyssomnia) characterized by overwhelming drowsiness and
sudden attacks of sleep.
The main
characteristic of narcolepsy is excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS),
even after adequate night time sleep.
Narcolepsy
is a chronic neurological disorder caused by the brain's inability
to regulate sleep-wake cycles normally.
There
is no cure for narcolepsy. In 1999, after successful clinical trial
results, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a drug
called modafinil for the treatment of EDS.
The disease
is principally characterized by a permanent and overwhelming feeling
of sleepiness and fatigue.
The Stanford
Center for Narcolepsy is always looking for volunteers in their narcolepsy
research studies.
