Question:
Yes, for 3 weeks I have had this crick or pain on the left side of
my neck and shoulder and also the little fingers on my left hand,
basically half of my left hand is numb and tingly. Also my right ear
has had a puffed out sensation since then also. Is all of this related
to my neck pain?
Gary
Answer:
Dear
Gary,
It is,
probably.
Shoulder
pain in some cases is a sign and symptom of neck pain.
Numbness
is a very common and significant symptom of a cervical disorder.
A common
cause for numbness in the arms , associated with neck pain, is a herniated
disc that "pinches" a nerve where it exits the spinal column.
Degenerative
changes appear early in the lower cervical spine, with the most severe
changes occurring at the C5-6 and C6-7 levels.
The 7
cervical vertebrae protect the spinal cord -- a collection of nerves
carrying electrical messages from the brain to different parts of
the body.
The ear
ache that you complain of can be associated with the neck pain you
have due to the closeness of the anatomical structures and their inter-relationship.
